What You Should Know about Hospital Safety and Quality

As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), MedStar is committed to a culture of safety and quality for our patients and our associates. This culture requires that our Associates and Providers focus on safety as a top priority each day.  Evaluating safety and quality metrics are part of our daily responsibility to ensure the best possible experience and outcomes for each of our patients.

We at MedStar applaud efforts to come up with meaningful ways to quantify healthcare safety and enable people to make informed choices. Leapfrog is one of several organizations that ranks hospital performance. These organizations use different quality measures, performance data and methodologies to calculate scores. As a result, a hospital may perform well on one report card and poorly on another. Although not reflected in the Leapfrog report card, in 2017, MedStar Montgomery was recognized as number one in the state for safety.

As always, we encourage patients to use all available tools at their disposal – such as talking with friends and family and consulting with doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers to make the most informed healthcare decisions.
