MedStar Montgomery Medical Center is a private, not-for-profit community hospital that has been providing quality healthcare and wellness services to the citizens of Montgomery and surrounding counties for more than 90 years. An integral component of MedStar Montgomery is its behavioral health services at the Addiction and Mental Health Center (AMHC). The Center has earned a reputation as a Center of Excellence in the delivery of a broad range of fully integrated inpatient, outpatient, crisis, community education and outreach programs for more than 40 years. Today, the AMHC is the most comprehensive treatment center based at an acute care hospital in the Baltimore/Washington area.
The AMHC provides behavioral health services to a culturally diverse client population, including those 13 years of age and older. Professionals trained in dealing with these populations meet the special needs of adolescents, adults and older adults. In order to provide the best possible client care, the AMHC has developed collaborative relationships with many other service providers and community professionals.
Crisis intervention assessments are provided 24-hours a day in the Howard R. Gudelsky Emergency Department. The CEU cares for patients with behavioral health concerns, which may include psychiatric or substance abuse conditions. For information and a referral, call 301-774-8888. The Evaluation Center serves as a point of entry to the AMHC outpatient services through nonemergency appointments available Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 301-774-8800 to schedule an appointment.
Our Addiction and Mental Health Center (AMHC) has received the Platinum designation, the highest status a facility can meet, as an inpatient provider of behavioral health services through Optum’s Achievements in Clinical Excellence (ACE) program.
The ACE program is a facility measurement program that recognizes those facilities providing both effective and efficient clinical care. A collaboration between Optum, formerly known as United Behavioral Health, and the behavioral health providers in its network, it is designed to help people make more informed choices when selecting a provider. It provides assurance to patients and their families that the behavioral healthcare they will receive here is of the highest quality.
The Platinum distinction is based on clinical data collected over the course of an entire year such as readmission rates and average length of inpatient stay. This data was then compared to that of other facilities in the region. Of the key data points examined, the AMHC exceeded nearly all.
