Robotic Surgery

MedStar Montgomery Medical Center offers the best of both worlds: advanced healthcare technology combined with the feeling of a community hospital. Now, with the da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System, the latest version of the world's most advanced robotic surgery system, our surgeons have the advantage when performing minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of a wide range of conditions, including some types of cancer.

Plus, with the recent addition of Single-Site™ da Vinci technology, we are among the first hospitals in this region to be able to perform certain surgeries through a single incision as small as an inch. This advanced surgical technique was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration specifically for cholecystectomy procedures, the removal of the gallbladder.

At the cornerstone of robotic surgery is the da Vinci ® Surgical System–a sophisticated platform designed to expand the surgeon's capabilities.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a condition that may require surgery, you owe it to yourself to learn about all of your medical options, including one of the most effective, least invasive surgical treatments, robotic surgery.

How does robotic surgery differ from laparoscopic surgery? They are both minimally invasive procedures that provide you with the most precise surgery and the shortest recovery, but a few key differences exist:

Level of dexterityHighest possible; robotic instruments can rotate a full 360 degrees and are more flexible than a human hand or wristLimited range of motion compared to robotic
Ability to access hard-to-reach placesIncomparable; the robot has the dexterity to reach previously inaccessible areas of the bodyGreater compared to traditional open surgery due to smaller instruments; less than compared to robotic surgery
