Dr. M. McKendree Boyer Lecture

Each lecture contributes to Dr. Boyer's dream of the power of knowledge and importance of learning.

The Annual Dr. M. McKendree Boyer Memorial Lecture is hosted by Helen Boyer and her family to honor her husband’s passion for knowledge and learning.

Dr. M. McKendree Boyer began at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center as an internist in 1935, then served as vice chairman of the Medical Staff from 1947 to 1959. Following the tragic death of hospital founder, Dr. Jacob Wheeler Bird, Dr. Boyer became chief of medicine.

Even after Dr. Boyer was diagnosed with cancer, he never missed a day of work, believing his patients' care was of the utmost importance. Dr. Boyer passed away on December 28, 1978. Dr. Boyer's wish was to continue to broaden education for medical staff and nurses. In 1979, the first Annual Dr. M. McKendree Boyer Memorial Lecture was held.

Each lecture, a new speaker is invited to present before an audience of the Boyer family, hospital leadership, the Women's Board, physicians, community members and associates.
