Our Community Gives Back

A Culture of Gratitude in Our Community

Our Olney community and surrounding neighbors continue to generously support MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, a not-for-profit healthcare facility. From annual events to support from local businesses, our friends and families who call MedStar Montgomery their hospital are our biggest advocates and strongest champions. And we would like to recognize their continued dedication…

Joe’s Ride & Stride Donates $20,000 to Our Pediatric Patients

Joe’s Ride & Stride is an annual Olney Days event to support the Joseph Patrick Sanford Memorial Foundation, established in memory of Joe Sanford who passed away at the age of 10 of brain cancer. The annual event, which includes cycling, walking and running for all ages, helps to recognize and remember the children we’ve lost in our community.

In 2011, Joe’s Ride donated $12,000 to our pediatric emergency department, purchasing a private room and supporting the comfort and care of our pediatric patients.

Proceeds from this year’s 13th Annual Joe’s Ride & Stride, held on Saturday, May 16th at Oakdale Emory Church, will purchase the Panda Warmer® for our Pediatric Emergency department, helping to meet the needs of our labor and delivery patients in the Emergency department.

The Panda Warmer® is a piece of equipment that allows our caregivers to more easily observe the baby with a new revolutionary design. It also has a warm-up mode, so the bed can be warmed before the baby arrives without disturbing the mother during labor. This innovative piece of equipment has an integrated scale option, simplifying the weighing procedure while keeping the baby comfortable.

Jeremy’s Run Contributes $12,000 to Our Addictions and Mental Health Center

Jeremy’s Run is organized every year by Cyndi Glass in loving memory or her son Jeremy Daniel Glass, who passed away at the age of 20 from a drug overdose. Its goal is to raise awareness of the dangers of substance abuse while raising money for substance abuse education, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

In 2014, Jeremy’s Run donated $15,000 to the Addictions and Mental Health Center at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, introducing seminars called “Jeremy’s Hour: Knowledge Can Save a Life.” These seminars, held in the fall and spring months, provide information and strategies to parents, school personnel and clinicians to help them learn how to save the lives of young people struggling with substance abuse.

The 7th Annual Jeremy’s Run, held on Monday, May 25th at the Fair Hill Shopping Center in Olney, raised $12,000 for our hospital. Thanks to the generous gift from Jeremy’s Run, we will continue to increase awareness about substance use and educate our community by providing more “Jeremy’s Hour: Knowledge Can Save a Life” seminars. Dates for these seminars will be coming soon.

Donate to the Addictions and Mental Health Center—help support our patients and families struggling with substance abuse.
