Sherwood High School POM Squad Donates $4,062 to Our Cancer Patients
In 2013, the Sherwood High School POM Squad, with Coach Jeanne Laeng, decided their annual service project for the season would be raising funds for the Capital Campaign for Oncology at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. Three seasons later—they have continued the tradition!
POMS Make Our Campaign their Service Project for the Third Straight Season
The 2015-2016 Sherwood High School POMS raised $500 for our Capital Campaign for Oncology at their Fall POM Day Camp in November, making our initiative their annual service project for a third straight season! The squad taught 75 young campers dance routines, followed by a recital with 250 parents. Seniors presented to the audience about our campaign, explaining its importance and the impact it makes on their community.
Thank you to the 2015-2016 Sherwood High School POM Squad for making our campaign your project this season—we are so grateful for all of your hard work and dedication! View more photos in the slideshow below.
POMS First Season Tops $2,124 in Campaign Donations
The squad’s then junior officer, Abby Snyder, first heard of the cause through her parents and campaign committee members, Dan and Debbie. The ladies were then introduced to the Capital Campaign for Oncology when they toured the original Helen P. Denit Center for Radiation Therapy in 2013.
Throughout their first season, they canned at home football games, held raffle contests and raised funds at their fall and spring POM Day Camps. Surpassing all expectations, the POMS raised a total of $2,124 and they didn’t stop there!

2014-2015 POM Squad Raises $1,437 for our Hospital
In 2014, the squad decided their annual service project would be to continue supporting the Capital Campaign for Oncology. When members of the 2014-2015 Sherwood High School POM Squad attended the grand opening event of the expanded radiation therapy center in October of 2014, they were amazed at the transformation. Seeing how their donations continue to make this innovative cancer treatment available to their community inspired them more than ever.
In their first month, the squad raised $737 by promoting the campaign at their home football games, canning for donations and organizing raffles. They donated an additional $500 from their Fall POM Day Camp and then $200 from their Spring POM Day Camp in 2015.
On behalf of the MGH Health Foundation, the Capital Campaign for Oncology Committee and the radiation therapy center patients and families, we would like to give a special thank you to the Sherwood High School POMS, for your support to MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. We are so grateful for all of your hard work and astonished by your dedication to our hospital.
MedStar Montgomery Medical Center is a not-for-profit healthcare facility and all funds raised stay at our community hospital.
